NANHRI holds a Workshop On Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) and Human Rights for NHRIs Staff

The Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) held a four day training workshop for the staff of five African National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) on Human Rights and Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) from 7th – 10th  March, 2017 at the Royal Orchid Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya.

The workshop was a follow up to an earlier online course dubbed, “SOGIE and Human Rights” which sought to enhance the capacity of African (NHRIs) to respond effectively to SOGIE issues and discrimination within their countries.

The aim of the face-to-face workshop was to bridge the learning from the online course with further inputs and discussions to determine how NHRIs can facilitate protection of the rights of LGB/ITGNC persons.

The workshop brought together the online participants from the five NHRIs namely; Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa and Uganda; civil society and other stakeholders.
