To support, through national, sub-regional, regional and international co-operation, the establishment, strengthening and development of national human rights institutions in order to enable them to more effectively undertake their mandate of human rights monitoring, promotion, protection and advocacy.
The Durban Review Conference
The Durban Review Conference will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from 20-24 April, 2009.
This conference will review and assess implementation of the wide-ranging commitments undertaken by governments at the 2001 World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance held in Durban, South Africa. In attendance will be National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) which are among the expert bodies specifically called upon to help implement the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA). read more
