Promoting and protecting the rights of persons living with disabilities – the role of NHRIs
Key milestones

An initial conversation with NHRIs was held in 2013 on the role of NHRIs in promoting the rights of (potentially) vulnerable groups in society and the focus was on older persons, persons living with disabilities and on the issue of sexual orientation and gender identity.

In furtherance of this work, in 2014, NANHRI began the process, together with select NHRIs, of developing a monitoring guide that would enable NHRIs to monitor at the national level the promotion and protection of the right of persons living with disabilities as provided for under the UN-CRPD and specifically article 33. This will culminate into validation of CRPD tool by NHRIs
